How It Works?
Top 25,000 sites are downloaded from Alexa using Alexa Web Service. For all of them, historical reach is requested for last 1 year. Depending on shape of reach curve, growth rank is calculated.
Algorithm for growth rank calculation takes the following variables into account:
- Median reach over each month for the last 2 years. Median helps even out spikes and falls due to things like server failures or digg effect
- Reach delta. Negative delta makes site penalized for decreased visitor count
- Recency of traffic data. Recent data has more weight
How Accurate Is The Data?
All data is no more accurate than Alexa data is. Accuracy usually is good enough to discover rapidly growing websites when they start entering top 10,000 Alexa sites.
